Dinner with a View!

Dinner with a View!

By K. Ross

I just want to take a quick moment and share some love to all of you!  Are you the one who read my last blog and thought…OMG, I hope she has nice weather on this year’s family beach trip?  Well, if you are that ONE, I want to the send out a special thank you…our trip for the first time in years was RAIN FREE!  We did have a couple cloudy days, but that didn’t stop our beach time!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for all your “no rainy day at the beach” vibes, they are greatly appreciated.  Not only by me, but from my whole family!

So, I wanted to continue with the beachy theme this week and share a restaurant experience that my family enjoyed while visiting Virginia Beach.  It may be enjoyable for the little ones, but if you love good food and enjoy that beach view…you’re going to love this week’s blog.

This experience starts at 183 feet above the Atlantic Ocean at Virginia Beach’s Marriott Resort.  Once arriving at the Marriott, you will embark your way up to 23rd floor.  Then the magic really begins!  As you enter Orion’s Roof you are greeted with a beautiful smile from your host! This part one of the amazing service.  I like to think this host is the “gatekeeper” and they have the key to your table that when you sit down you are guaranteed a “million-dollar view!” WOW, just WOW…THE VIEW!  Now, if I was an amazing writer, I could describe how amazing the view is with words that will make you think that you are there, but unfortunately, I’m not that good!! LOL  You will just have to trust me until you make your way there!

Now you’re thinking…okay we get it, the view is awesome, “I want to hear more about the food!”  But hold on one second, let’s start with cocktails.  These amazing handcrafted cocktails are sure to exceed your pre-dinner cocktail expectations.  My pre-dinner cocktail was the “Chill Pill.”  The name may have persuaded me a little, when you’re on vacation and at the beach we all need that “chill pill” to relax and enjoy the moment.  This strawberry and rice infused white rum, pineapple, crème de coconut, and lime cocktail is exactly what the doctor prescribed.  You’ll be “chill” seconds after that first sip!

I can’t exactly remember what everyone ordered that night (maybe it was the second “chill pill”), but I will say we over ordered, it all sounded sooooo good!  I’m not going to go deep into the sushi we had. All I need to say is that it tasted so fresh, that you would think they just caught the fish seconds before it serving it to you! The tuna, OMG! AMAZING!

Besides the sushi, here are a couple of other recommendations that stole the show.  The “Miso Glazed Black Cod” and the “Blackened Chicken Red Curry Alfredo.”  The alfredo dish was the perfect combination of my two favorite cuisines…Italian and Thai.  These flavors together are like a flavor bomb exploding in your mouth and your tastes buds are screaming for more!  The Cod dish is not something I would typically order.  I’ve never been a big fan of Cod, but throw some Miso on it…it had me at hello!  I will say the real star of this plate with marinated lotus root.  I’ve tried many things in my life, but this was a first for me.  I was a little hesitate but after that first bite, I am now proud to say “I’m a lotus root lover and I don’t care what you say!”

I could go on and on and on about the food, but we are just about out of time for this week’s episode.  I may have to do a part two of this blog! Thoughts?  But after reading over what I wrote, I’ve noticed I used the word amazing a little too much, but I’m sorry I’m not going to change them…this restaurant is AMAZING!  LOL, I promise that is my last “amazing!”

So, please the next time you’re in Virginia Beach go check out “Orion’s Roof.” And be sure to make a reservation, they are packed all day and all night!  And after your “Orion Roof’s” experience, you can tell me your word to describe this place other than amazing.  Oh darn, I used it again!  I promise no more!  Happy dining with a view!
