Let’s get Buzzed!

“Lets’ get Buzzed!”

By K. Ross

If you’re reading the title and thinking this blog is about cocktails, I’m sorry, this will be about things that go buzz!  But if you are interested in a blog about cocktail recipes, let me know, I would be happy to share some recipes with you.  Alright back to things that go buzz, you guessed it…this blog is about bees!!  We’re heading a little south of Richmond to Chesterfield for their 14th Annual Honey Bee Festival.  Do you love everything bees?? If you do, this is the place to be on September 27th.

Are you a honey lover? Are you fascinated with bees and how the play a huge part in our ecosystem?  Did you ever want to start your own colony? Are looking for fall family friendly event?  If you said yes to one of these questions or if you said yes to all of them, you need to head over this festival.

I, for one, am totally fascinated by bees. (I even have a bee tattoo!)  But what I love most about this event is the “bee” education activities!  These are activities are geared for kids and adults.  You can learn about bees, gardening, and pollination all in fun, safe environment.  That’s right, you don’t need to wear a beekeeper’s outfit for these hands-on activities!  But if you really want to wear…go for it!

In addition to the bee activities, there is also a goat petting zoo, delicious food trucks, live music, and informative “Buzz Talks.”  And also, for kids, there is a Bumble Bee Jamboree Kids Area.  I’m pretty short, I might have to sneak into this area…it sounds like a blast!

Now, for all my shoppers out there let me share some things you may want to pick up.  Of course, there will be honey and honey and some more honey! LOL. But you can also find some bee friendly plants to bring home or if you’re interested in becoming a beekeeping…they will have all the supplies you need!  Even the beekeeper outfit!

I know I said it earlier, but I will say it again…I am bee lover.  In particular, a honey bee lover!  These amazing creatures not only produce sweet, sweet honey, but they are amazing to have around if you’re into gardening.  Having these pollinators near your garden will do wonders!  The population of honey bees has been decreasing over the years, so we need your help!  Save the honey bee!!  This is the end of my public service announcement! ☺

So, hearing about this festival…are you buzzed yet? LOL. Let’s head on over to Chesterfield to Rockwood Park Backyard Beekeepers, Saturday, September 27th. This unique celebration will leave you buzzing!  If you want to learn more about this festival, visit rockwoodbeepers.com.
