Tunnel Horror…

Tunnel Horror…

By: K. Ross

I’ve been waiting to share another fun fall adventure with you! And this time, we’re heading west towards the mountains again…because you know I just can’t stay away! LOL

Now, we all know October is the month for pumpkins, fall colors, costumes, and all things SPOOKY! But what if I told you that you could add a little history and a whole lot of nighttime adventure to your fall bucket list? Oh yes, we’re doing just that!

We’re heading to Afton, VA, for Tunnel After Dark at the Blue Ridge Tunnel! And trust me, this isn’t your everyday walk in the park.

Imagine walking through a historic railroad tunnel after the sun goes down! The Blue Ridge Tunnel is nearly a mile long, and for this special evening, the tunnel and portions of the trail will be lined with glowing luminary bags. Now, tell me that doesn’t sound like the perfect setting for a little Halloween adventure!

This historic tunnel has quite a story to tell, too. Just imagine the hard work it took to carve a tunnel through these mountains back in the 1850s. No fancy equipment like we have today…just people working their way through solid rock! Makes you appreciate that little walk through the mountain a whole lot more, doesn’t it?

And just when you think this adventure couldn’t get any better, we have to give a shout-out to the folks at Blue Mountain Brewery! They host this special evening and celebrate with the release of their seasonal beer. Now, if you’re a craft beer fan, that’s another reason to make the trip! And if you’re not…come for the history, the atmosphere, and the experience!

But wait…there’s MORE! This event also gives back to the community, with proceeds supporting local organizations, including the Nelson County Pantry and Blue Ridge Packs and Tracks. I LOVE seeing an event bring people together for a good time while helping others along the way!

So, mark your calendar for October 30th, from 6 to 9 p.m., and get ready for a different kind of fall adventure. This is a special after-dark event, so be sure to check the event details and ticket information before heading out. And PLEASE bring a flashlight or headlamp, wear comfortable walking shoes, and watch your step. We’re exploring a real historic tunnel, not strolling down a perfectly paved sidewalk! LOL

I wish you safe travels as you head west toward the mountains. Take your time, enjoy those beautiful fall views, and remember…sometimes the best adventures happen when the sun goes down!

See you tunnel side! Happy Haunting, everyone!
